課程概述

***The syllabus may be updated now and again. The definitive version will be distributed in the first class. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail the instructor at mavistseng@ntu.edu.tw

English Composition II is a one-year course that helps students to become better writers at the college level. In order to develop in the students an interest in learning English and encourage them to enjoy the process of writing, the course will balance lectures with various learning activities, such as group discussion, in-class writing and creative projects, peer review workshops, individual meetings, film viewing and critique, and language quizzes/games. There will be ample opportunities to practice writing academic essays, formal and informal writings, film/book reviews, cv/resume, cover letter, and e-mails.

In the first semester, we will focus on how to achieve clarity and coherence in writing, how to come up with a clear and strong thesis, and practice drafting, revising, editing, and reviewing essays on academic and general topics. In the second semester, we will read a contemporary novel together, and complete a mini-research paper.
